Things To Consider When Choosing A Water Pump

27/05/2021 12:00AM

Having your own water pump can be very beneficial for a variety of reasons. It provides you with a stable source of water that can be used for various applications, from simple clean-up to filling up your swimming pool. A water pump is a smart investment, so you should consider these specific factors to ensure that you choose the right one.

LPM discharge capacity

The discharge capacity of your water pump basically reflects how effective it is. It dictates the flow rate, or how long it takes to pump a specific amount of water, usually in litres per minute. For heavy-duty uses, a water pump with a higher discharge capacity is recommended. For a standard home, however, a flow rate of around 20 to 40 litres per minute is substantial and can be very useful.

Maximum head lift

This refers to the pressure the pump can discharge water. As a rule of thumb, the average home irrigation system requires 20-30 metres head pressure to operate. Selecting a pump with max head 30 metres will give you minimal to no flow, so select a pump that exceeds your required head pressure. Refer to the pump curve for LPM discharge at selected head pressure or speak to us!
